Faculty of Law, PES University was established in 2017, under the guidance of our Hon’ble Founder and Chancellor, Dr. M.R Doreswamy, with a vision of establishing a global law school.   • Curriculum Design: Specialization with Dynamic pedagogy Our programs include specialized courses, legal service initiatives, industrial visits, and seminars by legal luminaries. Each course and project is designed to build distinct skillsets in research, advocacy, and problem-solving—vital competencies for aspiring lawyers. From research paper writing and class presentations to moot court exercises and case simulations, students develop critical skills essential for a successful legal career.
  • Teaching and Learning Process:
    • a. Research-Driven Learning – Essential Skill Development: Research is fundamental to the lawyer’s craft. At PES University, students have access to premier national and international law databases, including Manupatra, SCC Online, Hein Online, LexisNexis and JSTOR. This access supports comprehensive research training, with elective courses across four specialized groups, enabling students to tailor their expertise.
    • b. Experiential Learning: By means of Teaching Practice, students gain firsthand experience in teaching law thereby bridging the gap between legal theory, pedagogy and classroom engagement. Additionally, through Legal Services, the students work on real and stimulative legal cases under faculty supervision. Further, Moot Court and simulations provide practical exposure to courtroom advocacy through internal or external competitions. Centre for Policy, Research and Drafting ensures sufficient experience to students in research and policy drafting arenas
    • c. Zero Hour – Insights from Leading Minds: Every week, prominent speakers, including Civil Servants, Judges, Lawyers, Policy Makers, and Industry Experts conduct engaging sessions on contemporary topics. Past guests have included top experts in law, public policy, management, and the arts. These interactions open doors to invaluable networking and mentorship opportunities.
  • PESU Exposure:
    • a. PESU Legal Eagle – From the first year through the third, students participate in a unique program, which provides hands-on experience in legal practice. This program allows students to apply classroom knowledge in the real-world.
    • b. Student-Centric Committees and Skills Development: A vibrant collection of student-run-committees organizes events, conferences, competitions and skills-building workshops.
    • c. Legal Services: Legal Services Clinics are established with a twin objective of inculcating an attitude amongst the students to provide effective legal and para legal services to the poor and marginalized sections of the society who have difficulty accessing the judicial system. Additionally, it also provides a centre to improve the clinical legal skills of the students. Demonstrating our commitment to society, we have adopted five villages to provide legal services to the under privileged.
  • Scholarships: PES University offers merit-based scholarships to recognize and reward academic excellence among its students. The Prof. MRD Scholarship, which provides the top 5% of students based on CGPA with a merit certificate and a 50% tuition fee refund, and the Prof. CNR Rao Scholarship, which awards the next 20% of students (based on SGPA) with a merit certificate and a 40% tuition fee refund. These scholarships reflect PES University's commitment to supporting meritorious students and fostering academic achievement.
  • Assessment: The assessment system of the course is designed to cultivate legal acumen and critical thinking in students. These courses entail classroom teaching and include a continuing assessment component comprising assignments, research papers, presentations, class participation, moot court exercises, response papers, etc. The assessment approach is employed to foster continuous learning.
Course Structure & Credit Requirements

As part of the 1-year LL.M programme, students will be offered common courses (mandatory for all students), and Specialisation based electives. Common courses provide an introduction to an area of study. These include foundational law subjects as well as interdisciplinary courses (See table below).

  • All courses are generally for four credits. Each student is required to successfully complete a total of 40 credits, comprising a combination of core courses and elective modules, to fulfil the requirements of the programme.

The students will be offered common courses and specialisation based content to explore their areas of interest in a systematic and comprehensive manner, PESU offers a wide range of elective courses. In addition to PESU’s own faculty, electives are often taught by practitioners and other experts who come in as Guest Faculty. This allows students to interact with and learn from a pick of the very best in diverse areas of law.

Scholarships @ PESU

Merit Certificate + 50% Tuition Fee Refund for Top 5% of the Students based on their CGPA.

Merit Certificate + 40% Tuition Fee Refund for the next 20% of the Students based on their SGPA.

Merit Certificate for Students securing 7.75+ SGPA.

Note:

  1. The Scholarships/ Awards are subject to qualifying CGPA/ SGPA and other conditions as stipulated by Scholarship Committee each year.
  2. The above Scholarships/ Awards are not applicable to students in their final year of study.
  3. The student is eligible only for one award in each semester/year.

PES University Loyalty Program

Benefit: 30% fee concession annually for all years of study.

Eligibility:

  • Children of full-time current employees on the payroll of PES University.
  • The parent must have been employed at PES University continuously for at least 5 years at the time of the candidate’s admission.
  • Applicable Programs: All programs of study at PES University.

Benefit: 20% fee concession annually for all years of study.
